Abstract

After the initial production stages are carried out, namely primary recovery and secondary recovery, it is necessary to carry out further production stages in the form of tertiary recovery or commonly called enhanced oil recovery. One of the methods is polymer flooding, a simple concept by increasing the viscosity of injection water which is useful for reducing the mobility of water as a pressing fluid so as to increase sweep efficiency. Polymers used in the petroleum industry are classified into two main types, namely synthetic polymers and biopolymers. In the study of biopolymers found in plants, can not be separated from the discovery of polysaccharide content. In plants the content of polysaccharides is known as carbohydrates which are used as food reserves, one of which is found in durian seeds. Polysaccharides have a function to increase the viscosity of the solution. Therefore it is necessary to do further research to identify the characteristics of durian seed starch such as compatibility, density, viscosity and shear rate as initial parameters for making alternative polymers as flooding polymer options. Researchers will conduct tests on polymer concentrations starting from 500 ppm, 1.000 ppm, 1.500 ppm and 2.000 ppm. At temperatures of 60°C, 70°C and 80°C respectively. As well as variations in brine salinity starting from 5.000 ppm, 30.000 ppm and 60.000 ppm. The process of processing durian seed waste uses an extraction method that produces the final product, durian seed starch, with 100-150 mesh starch granules. Based on polymer compatibility testing, 10 compatible samples of durian seed starch and 13 samples of xanthan gum were obtained. From the density testing that has been carried out on the effect of adding polymer concentration, salinity and temperature on the durian seed starch biopolymer and xanthan gum biopolymer it can be concluded that, the greater the addition of polymer concentration and water salinity, the density of the solution will increase. However, as the temperature increases, it will reduce the polymer density. Based on the viscosity testing that has been done about the effect of polymer concentration, salinity, temperature and shear rate on durian seed starch biopolymers and xanthan gum biopolymers, it can be concluded that the greater the addition of the given polymer concentration, the viscosity and density values will increase. But the higher the salinity, test temperature and shear rate, the viscosity will decrease.
