Abstract

Biopolymers are polymers found in plants, in several studies it has been proven that durian seeds contain polysaccharides or so-called carbohydrates. Durian seeds contain high carbohydrates with a percentage of 83.92%. This study aims to identify alternative polymers as an option for polymer flooding materials by knowing advanced characteristics such as gelation time, pH, solubility and filtration rate. The process of making durian seeds into starch is carried out in several stages, namely drying, crushing and screening until the seeds are transformed into dry starch or flour. Then proceed with gelation time testing on formation water salinity (brine) of 5000, 30,000 and 60,000 ppm using various concentrations of polymer solutions including 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm with temperature variations of 60, 70 and 80 . In the solubility test the results show that the higher the salinity concentration of brine and the concentration of the polymer will cause the polymer to be dissolved longer, then the higher the test temperature will cause the polymer to dissolve more quickly. The gelation time test showed that the two compatible solutions with the same concentration and different temperatures had the same gelation time value, then the higher the polymer concentration and the water salinity concentration, the longer the gelation time process. In the pH test the results showed that the higher the addition of the salinity concentration, the lower the pH value but it was not significant and the higher the addition of the polymer concentration it would cause an increase in the pH value. From the results of the filtration test, there were 2 samples each of the durian seed polymer and xanthan gum which had a value above 1.2, indicating that there was a precipitate.
