Abstract

The prior studies on self-confidence have been done by other reseachers, but some problems still exist. This study is motivated by the low self-confidence of students at SD IT Future Islamic School Pekanbaru from the signs showing that some students have lack of confidence and tend to keep passive, they are easily frustrated when facing difficulties, they are nervous to face anything and difficult to accept their reality. The formulation of the problem in this study is: what are the efforts of Islamic studies teachers in improving students’ confidence at SD IT Future Islamic School Pekanbaru? This study aims to determine the efforts of Islamic studies teachers in improving students’ confidence at SD IT Future Islamic School Pekanbaru. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. Based on data analysis, the results of the study show that the efforts of Islamic studies teachers in improving students’ confidence are: (1) motivating through advice and stories that inspire, tidying students’ appearances, keeping practicing continuously, giving appreciation in the form of praise and reward to students, making students work together to communicate actively, making students dare to ask questions and come forward by asking them to write and read, improving self-confidence to reach learning achievement, overcoming obstacles for students whose lack confidence. (2) making students think optimistically, giving special responsibilities to students, arranging students’ seats, giving attention and good treatment to students, making classroom condition interesting.
