Abstract

This research was motivated by nurses and patients at Bangkinang Hospital, Kampar District, who were less polite when speaking. Therefore, the author is interested in examining the problem based on the title. The reason the author chose the Principles of modesty in the Speech Between Nurses and Patients in Bangkinang Hospital in Kampar Regency, because the principle of politeness between nurses and patients plays a very important role when conducting conversations or communication, namely so that communication can be established well. In addition, speech delivered by nurses and patients in the room has embraced the principle of politeness which consists of maxims of wisdom, maxims of generosity, maxim of rewards, maxims of simplicity, maxims of consensus and maxims of conclusions. The problem examined in this study is how is the maxims of wisdom, maxims of generosity, maxims of appreciation, maxim of simplicity, maxims of consensus, maxims of sympathy for the Principles of modesty in the Speech Between Nurses and Patients in RSUD Bangkinang, Kampar Regency? The purpose of this study was to know the maxims of wisdom, generosity of maxims, maxims of appreciation, maxim of simplicity, maxims of consensus, maximal conclusions on the Principles of modesty in the Speech Between Nurses and Patients in Bangkinang General Hospital, Kampar Regency. The theory used in this study is Leech in Rahardi (2005). The method used is descriptive method. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. This type of research is field research. Data collection techniques in this study used observation techniques, recording techniques and note taking techniques. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that out of 118 utterances, the maxims that many researchers found were maxims of wisdom, which meant Nurses and Patients in Bangkinang Hospital Kampar District adhered to the principle of always reducing their profits and maximizing the benefits of others. While the Principles of modesty in the Nurse and Patient's Speech at Bangkinang Hospital in Kampar Regency based on the number of speeches that were not found were the maxim of simplicity and maxim of conclusions, which meant Nurses and Patients in Bangkinang Hospital Kampar Regency could not maintain simplicity and confusion in speaking activities.
