Abstract

Thickening time is one of the things that need to be considered in cementing, if the thickening time exceeds the duration of the cement pumping process it will harden first before reaching the desire target. The way to slow down thickening time is by adding additives that are retarder, one of which is carboxymethyl cellulose. The high number of durian fruit production in Indonesia, especially in Riau province, has the potential to produce a lot of durian skin waste. The cellulose content in durian skin is around 50%-60% so that it can be used a raw material for making carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). Before testing the thickening time, durian skin will be used as a raw material for making CMC by delignification, bleaching chemical, cellulose puring, monochloride acetic acid, neutralizer, grinding and sieving. After making CMC from durian peels, thickening time will be tested with concerntration of 1%,3%, and 5%. Making a cement suspension is done by mixing water, cement, and CMC from durian skin using a mixer, after which it is poured in an atmospheric consistometer with several variations in temperature. From the result of research conducted obtain result at a temperature of 40⁰C (105⁰F) with a concerntration of 1% of 135,14 minutes, a cincetration of 3% of 142,86 minutes, and a concerntration of 5% of 166,67 minutes. With variations in concerntration it proves that CMC KD is a retarder. In testing with temperature variations, the result obtained at a temperature of 40⁰C with a concerntration of 5% of 166,67 minutes, while at a temperature of 80⁰C with a concerntration of 5% of 125 minutes. With the variations in temperature prove that the temperature can shorten the thickening time.
