Abstract

The title of this thesis is "Teacher Strategies in Increasing Reading Interest of Students in SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kuras, Pelalawan Regency". The problem in this research is How is the teacher's strategy in increasing the reading interest of students of SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kuras, Pelalawan Regency? The purpose of this study is to determine the teacher's strategy in increasing reading interest of students at SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kuras, Pelalawan Regency. The purpose of this study is to determine the teacher's strategy in increasing reading interest of students at SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kuras, Pelalawan Regency. The theory used was proposed by Sutarno (2016: 107-111). This research is a grounded theory method, with a qualitative approach by interview. The results obtained from the teacher's strategy to increase the reading interest of students of SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Kuras by using 12 indicators were ranked good. Because teachers do various strategies to increase students' interest in reading. It can be seen from the data analysis that the teacher has implemented a strategy that can be proven with 12 indicators used as interviews for teachers. This research is said to be in a good level because of the factors that prove that the teacher has a strategy to increase interest in reading as follows: 1. motivate and provide understanding of the role of reading, by doing repeated reading, 2. With an interesting book, borrowing a book in the library as a companion book , 3. Giving assignments and borrowing books by getting additional grades, 4. Giving reading time at the beginning of the lesson, 5. Material according to syllabus and lesson plans and giving different assignments, 6. Giving allegations and telling to the library, 7. Giving additional value and and make a reading list, provide a collection of books and hold student guardian meetings, 9. Communicate the role of reading for life and socialize with the community, 10. Provide homework and provide free time to read, 11. Make proposals and submit to the government, 12. Decorate the library and updating books in the library.
