Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of farmers and traders; (2) Cost, income, and efficiency of baung fish farming; (3) institutions, channels, costs, margins, profits, and marketing efficiency. Sampling of farmers was done randomly (simple random sampling) of 10 people and the sample of traders was chosen purposively as many as 6 people. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that: (1) The characteristics of baung fish farmers were: the average age of farmers obtained was 38.80 years; average length of education 10.30 years; the average experience of farming is 10.90 years; and the average dependents of a farmer's family are 3 people (small). Meanwhile, traders have an average age of 51.33 years (productive), 10,00 years of education (equivalent to junior high school), 12.33 years of business experience, and the number of dependents in the family is 3 people. (2) In baung fish farming, the production costs incurred are Rp. 20,096,588, which consists of variable costs of Rp. 18,712,875 (93.11%) and fixed costs of Rp. 1,383,713/production period (6 ,89%); (b) gross income obtained is Rp. 26,875,000/production period, with a production of 538 kg and a price of Rp. 50,000/kg; net income was Rp 6,778,412/production period. (c) Efficiency or RCR is obtained at 1.34, which means it is already profitable and feasible to work on. (3) In Marketing, it is known that there are 2 marketing institutions, namely collectors and retailers, which form 2 marketing channels, namely from farmers -> collectors -> retailers -> consumers; and from farmers -> retailers -> consumers. The marketing cost for channel I is Rp. 2,460/kg and channel II is Rp. 1.780/kg. The marketing margin for channel I is Rp. 15,000/kg and channel II is Rp. 15,000/kg. The marketing advantage in channel I is Rp. 12,540/kg and channel II is Rp. 13,220/kg. Marketing efficiency shows that channel II (Ep = 2.74%) is more efficient than channel I (Ep = 3.78%).
