Abstract
Politeness of speech is very important to make speakers and speech partners understand each other. An interrogative sentence is a sentence that contains asking something to the interlocutor, an utterance is said to be polite if it does not sound pushy or arrogant, the speech gives a choice to the interlocutor, and the interlocutor feels calm. This study examines the formation of interrogative speech and the principles of politeness in the Mata Najwa program on Youtube. The problem under study is (1) How is the interrogative speech formed in the Mata Najwa program on Youtube? and (2) How are the maxims of the principle of politeness in every way of forming interrogative speech on the Mata Najwa program on Youtube?. The theory used in this research is Nadar (2009) and Leech in Rahardi (2005). The data source of this research is the video of Mata Najwa on Youtube with the theme "Vaccine Who is Afraid", the data of this research are interrogative utterances totaling 50 utterances. The collection technique used is documentation technique, listening technique, and note-taking technique. The analysis technique used is transcribed from spoken language to written language, selected speech spoken by the presenter, data is grouped based on maxims of politeness according to theory, data is presented in the form of data analysis, then presented in the form of data interpretation, and data is concluded based on research results. The conclusion of this research is the data on how to form interrogative speech, namely (1) interrogative speech by adding the word "what" or "whether" found 16 utterances; (2) interrogative utterances by reversing the word order found 16 utterances; (3) interrogative speech using the word "not" or "no" found 7 utterances; (4) interrogative speech by changing the intonation of the sentence found 12 utterances; and (5) interrogative utterances using question words found 6 utterances. The maxims of politeness in the way of forming interrogative utterances were found: (1) the maxim of wisdom found 16 utterances; (2) the maxim of generosity found 1 utterance; (3) the maxim of appreciation is not found in utterances; (4) the maxim of simplicity is not found in utterances; (5) the maxim of consensus found 20 utterances; and (6) sympathy maxim found 6 utterances. There is a violation of the maxim of politeness principle in this study found 7 utterances which are included in the violation of the maxim of wisdom, there are 3 utterances, and 4 utterances there are violations of the maxim of sympathy.
