Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the conservation efforts of Gondang Oguang in Gunung Sahilan Kampar Kiri District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The theory that the researcher uses is the theory of conservation efforts by Sedyawati (2008: 152) which states that conservation is seen as something that consists of three aspects, namely protection, development, and utilization. In its protection efforts, it includes efforts to keep cultural products from being lost or damaged. Development efforts include processing that results in quality improvement and/or expansion of repertoire. Utilization efforts include efforts to use cultural products for various purposes.. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis, with a qualitative approach. The data collection technique used in this research is the data collection technique of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study conclude that until now gondang oguang is still being preserved. Preservation efforts consist of three aspects, namely protection, development, and utilization. Protection efforts are carried out by maintaining the authenticity of Gondang Oguang which was obtained directly from traditional elders and the large amount of documentation about Gondang Oguang owned by Gunung Sahilan Village, Gunung Sahilan District, Kampar Kiri Regency. This development effort is seen in terms of quantity, namely by increasing the number of groups of gondang oguang musicians. Efforts to utilize gondang oguang performances every year are continuously performed in traditional events on the Kagun feast, besides that they are also displayed at weddings and circumcisions.
