Abstract

Language is a tool to convey something (language function). The function of language between the judge or prosecutor and the defendant has differences. The defendant uses language to answer questions from judges or prosecutors. Whereas prosecutors use language to ask for information, interrogate, and explore information about cases being tried through defendants and victims. The problem of this research is how the principle of politeness of language according to Leech and the scale of politeness of language according to Lakoff in the trial at the Pelalawan District Court, Pangkalan Kerinci Pelalawan Regency? The theory used in this study is Leech (Rahardi, 2005) and Robin Lakoff (Chaer, 2010). Data sources in this study were judge, prosecutor and defendant. While the data in this study are utterances that contain the principle and politeness scale when in the courtroom of the Pelalawan District Court, Pangkalan Kerinci Pelalawan Regency, which is recorded when performing data supply techniques in the field. The method used is descriptive method. Data collection techniques used were observation and record techniques. The conclusion in this study for the speech politeness principle according to Leech there are, (1) 8 data or 89% equivalent that adheres to the maxim of wisdom, while 1 data or 11% equivalent does not adhere to the policy maxim, (2) 4 data or the equivalent of 67% adhere to the generosity maxim, while 2 data or 33% equivalent do not comply with the generosity maxim, (3) 5 data or 83% equivalent which adhere to the award maxim, while 1 data or 17% does not comply with the reward maxim (4) 6 data or equivalent to 30% who adhere to the maxim of simplicity, while 14 data or the equivalent of 70% who do not comply with the maxim of simplicity, (5) 21 data or the equivalent of 100% who adhere to the maxims of agreement, (6) 4 data or the equivalent of 80% who adhere to the sympathetic maxims, while 1 data or equal to 20% who do not adhere to the sympathetic maxims. While for the politeness scale according to Lakoff, there are 587 data, consisting of (1) 127 data or 57% equivalent for polite speech and 95 data or 43% equivalent for speech that is not polite, (2) 117 data or equivalent 59 % for polite speech and 83 data or equal 41% for polite speech, (3) 107 data or equivalent to 65% for polite speech and 58 data or 35% equivalent for non-polite speech .
