Abstract

ABSTRACT RAHMAT HULUAN (NPM : 164310283) a student of the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau, has conducted a research entitled ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY TEST OF KERSEN (Muntingia calabura L) LEAVES EXTRACT AGAINST Aeromonas hydrophila, Vibrio alginolyticus AND Pseudomonas aeruginosa BACTERIA. under the guidance of Mr. Dr. Jarod Setiaji, S.Pi., M.Sc. This research was conducted for 30 days in November-December 2020 at the Laboratory of Fish Seed Center (BBI) Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of cherry leaf extract against the growth of A. hydrophila, V. alginolyticus and P. aeruginosa bacteria and to determine the concentration of cherry leaf extract that is good for inhibiting the growth of A. hydrophila, V. alginolyticus and P. aeruginosa bacteria. This research includes descriptive and experimental research in vitro. This research was conducted with 2 controls and 5 treatment levels with 2 replications. The control consisted of a positive control using oxytetracyline (30μg/ml) and a negative control using methanol as a solvent. Phytochemical test results showed that the active compounds contained in cherry leaf extract include saponins, flavonoids, phenolics (tannins) and steroids. The results of the antibacterial activity test of cherry leaf extract against the growth of pathogenic bacteria, showed that the cherry leaf extract at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% had shown inhibition zones against pathogenic bacteria. Concentration of 50% showed the most effective concentration and categorized as strong to inhibit the growth of A. hydrophila, V. alginolyticus and P. aeruginosa bacteria. This can be seen from the higher concentration of cherry leaf extract, the greater the inhibition zone produced.
