Abstract

Interpersonal Communication is the process of sending nd receiving messages that can take place when two people are having conversations with one another. Then there is a living interaction because each can function with each other. The same goes for Batak Ethnic Students who have difficulty communicating and adapting within the Faculty of Communication. The focus of this study discusses the issue of how Interpersonal Communication Batak Ethnic Students adapting in the Faculty Communication Studies of the Riau Islamic University the method in this study uses descriptive qualitative and data collected through interviews, observation and documentation. This research uses communication accomodation theory in terms of convergence. The results of this study that Interpersonal Communication that occurs in Batak Ethnic Students in communicting using everyday language yhet is easily understood in communicating between fellow Ethnic Batak, but if interacting with other students still use indonesian when communicating. In communicating and interacting, the researchers alsofound obstacles experienced by batak ethnic students, such as language barriers where Ethnic Batak Students had a strong accent and intonation, then clothing where Ethnic Batak Students experienced was cooled, students had to wear clothes like muslim clothing, using jilbab and long clothes and long skirts and confidence where ethnic batak students experience awkward while in the Faculty of Communication Science because Batak Ethnic Students are students minority students.
