Abstract

The use of facebook social media is very much in demand, Indonesia is one of the 4th most facebook users in the world. Facebook is a social networking service where users can interact with other users from all over the world. One feature that is often used on facebook is the status column, whit this feature anyone can post anything in that from of text, photos, videos, and other information. Posting in the status it is necessary to apply the principles of communication in Islam that is true in order not to occur SARA (Interfaith Race). This is because there are many improper uses of facebook, causing disputes, debates, divisions, or unwanted things. Facebook is also in demand by various group, one of which is the campus citivis, a lecturer at the faculty of Islamic Religion, Riau Islamic University. This study aims to determine the application of the principle of communication in Islam in the lecturer status column of the Islamic Faculty of Riau University on Facebook with a period of one month, from October 1st to 31st 2019. Whit the concept of the principles of communication in Islam. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were lecturer at the Islamic Faculty of the Islamic University of Riau. The results of this study stated that the lecturers of the Islamic Faculty of Islamic University of Riau have applied the principle of Communication in Islam by using words that are true, honest, appropriate and good, using word as gentle Communication, using easy word, mild not hurting other people’s hearts and don’t contain hoaxes using facebook social media in their status column.
