Abstract
Abstract Communication Apprehension Students of Faculty of Communication Sciences Riau Islamic University in Classroom Learning Activities (Case Study of Student in 2016) Adzru Rona Rimeldi 169110011 This research aims to determine the form of communication apprehension experienced by students and female students during learning activities in the classroom. Communication anxiety is a feeling of fear and worry during the communication process. Individuals who have communication anxiety will appear nervous, change tone of voice, shaky hands, cold sweat, and body language that looks panicked. Researchers see anxiety when the informant performs activities in class, such as presentations, giving speeches, and when going to ask questions or get questions from the lecturer. In this study, researchers used descriptive-qualitative research methods and the selection of informants was determined by purposive sampling. The data collection technique of this research is using library research method (literature study), interview and documentation. The informants used in this study were 2 male students and 3 female students of the faculty of communication science in 2016. The forms of anxiety that were found were worrying in speaking manners, being the center of attention, innate anxiety, lack of self-confidence, being intimidated by lecturers and friends, afraid when they can't answer questions from friends or lecturers, feel anxious if dropped and laughed at by friends. The causes of communication apprehension among the five informants were lack of skills in communication, inadequate experience, culture in terms of ethics in speaking because they felt anxious and afraid to offend others, newness of place and experience, inactivity between individuals in the room. Overcoming communication anxiety for the five informants, such as inhaling and exhaling, trying to calm down by diverting anxiety by doing activities such as playing with the pen and playing with the hand. The five informants have types of anxiety traitlike communication apprehension, audience communication apprehension, and situational communication apprehension.
