Abstract

GEOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF GRANITE ROCK IN TALUKA VILLAGE, LINTAU BUO DISTRICT, TANAH DATAR REGENCY, WEST SUMATERA PROVINCE CHERRY YUHELMAN Department of Geological Engineering ABSTRACT This research was conducted in Taluka Village, Lintau Buo District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra Province, located at the coordinates 0°34'11,9136"S - 100°45'53,2404"E and 0°33'7,1604"S - 100°46'57,9936"E which is covered on the administrative map of Tanah Datar Regency. The purpose of this study were to determine the geological aspects, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of granite rocks, the distribution of mineral deposits, and the potential utilization of mineral deposits in the study area. The research method used by using petrographic analysis and XRF analysis. The research area had a Structural Steep Hill Geomorphology Unit with a developing flow pattern, namely the Radial flow pattern. Petrography and XRF analysis were only carried out at stations 1, 3, 8, 15, and 17. At Station 1 the percent value of plagioclase minerals 50%, quartz 20%, feldspar 20%, and biotite 10%, station 3 the percent value of plagioclase minerals 50%, quartz 20%, 20% feldspar, and 10% biotite, station 8 percent value of 50% quartz mineral, 20% feldspar, 20% plagioclase, and 10% biotite, station 15 percent value of quartz minerals 55%, plagioclase 35%, feldspar 5% , and biotite 5%, and station 17 percent value of 60% quartz minerals, 30% plagioclase, and 10% feldspar. The distribution of Silica (SiO2) is obtained with an average value of 64.50%, Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) of 19.61%, Iron Oxide (Fe2O3) of 4.82%, Calcium Oxide (CaO) of 3.67%, and Potassium Oxide (K2O3) of 2.92%. The potential uses are silica mineral as a basic material for water filter media, sandblasting (metal cleaning technique), a mixture of cement and aluminium as basis for making metal.
