Abstract

This is a classroom action research (CAR). There are some signs that indicate the lack of students’ concentration in learning such as they pay less attention to the teachers, they are busy playing with their pens, they keep talking with classmates, they keep playing mobile when learning, so that their psychomotor skills do not develop properly. Based on the background of problem, then the problem formulation of this study is whether the implementation of mind mapping method can increase students’ concentration in learning Islamic studies at the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. This study aims to investigate the increase of students’ concentration in learning Islamic studies by implementing the mind mapping method at the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. The subject of this study is students at the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru, consisting of 36 students. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. In order to obtain the results of study, the process and analyze data are done through the stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of study show that using the mind mapping method can increase students’ concentration in learning up to 74% at the first cycle and 90% at the second cycle. These results are in the very high criterion. On the other side, the teacher ability in using mind mapping method is 87% at the first cycle and 94% at the second cycle or involved in the category of “very good”.
