Abstract

The problem background of this study is the low moral of students which leads to conflict, the loss of cultures in positive shame and being rude at school and learning environment. Therefore, this study is aimed to investigate how the implementation of internalization of school culture in improving students’ morals at SMKN 5 Pekanbaru. This study is a qualitative research with a case study approach conducted at SMKN (State Vocational High School) 5 of Pekanbaru City which lasts for 4 months from September 2021 to December 2021. The results of the study show that the collaboration of school policies, school culture and students is able to improve students’ morals. The low morals of students caused by the length of online learning at home that makes many students lazy. The internalization of school culture in improving students’ morals at SMKN 5 Pekanbaru was successfully implemented through school rules and regulations, habituation of noble character in every learning process from the beginning of arriving school to leaving school, role models of educators, and Islamic organization of extracurricular activities. The methods used in the internalization are role model, habituation, rule enforcement, motivation, punishment and reward. School cultural values such as thinking development, emotional development, sport activities, passion development and intention can be internalized to improve students’ morals at SMKN 5 Pekanbaru. This is reflected in the daily implementation of students at SMKN 5 Pekanbaru such as being polite and courteous in speaking, making jokes so that friends laugh and cheer up, providing news and stories that motivate them, avoiding to hurt friends physically, building culture of shame in saying bad words, improving students to arrive school in time, socializing and greet friends who pass by, maintaining cleanliness of the environment, avoiding disputes and maintain dignity as well as avoiding conflicts at school.
