Abstract

Water is still very well known as its main enemy asphalt, especially in coastal areas close to the sea. In general seawater has very high corrosivity and acidity. The waterlogged road will affect the strength and stability of the pavement structure so that there is the potential for a decline in the quality of the road. From the foregoing it can be said that (inundation) sea water and fresh water both cause damage or reduce durability in road construction, especially in the asphalt layer. Therefore this study aims to determine the comparative value of Marshall characteristics between freshwater and sea water immersion. In this study using experimental methods that are in accordance with the General Specifications of Bina Marga 2010 (Revised 3). This study uses immersion using fresh water and sea water, from the results of the immersion, it can be obtained Marshall characteristic values such as Stability Marshall, Flow, Voids In Mix (Vim), Voids In Mineral Aggregate (Vma), Voids Filled Bitument (Vfb), Marshall Quotient (Mq), and Bulk Density (Bd), after the parameter values are obtained then a comparison will be made. From the results of comparisons in the test using the Marshall test dilaborarorium for asphalt oil mixture pen 60/70, the Marshall stability value carried out by immersion using fresh water is 1.272 kg and the result of sea water immersion is 1.087 kg so that the value has a deviation of 14,5%, while for the value of melt (Flow) of fresh water immersion is equal to 3,13%, sea water immersion is 2,73%. Based on the results of these data it can be concluded that the effect or effect of sea water immersion can reduce the level of strength, durability and melting of the 60/70 pen asphalt.
