Empty Palm Oil Bunches (TKKS) are waste from palm oil mills whose utilization is still limited. In addition, EFB is also a waste whose availability is very abundant due to the large number of palm oil mills in Indonesia. In the petroleum industry, OPEFB can be used for the manufacture of surfactants. The use of OPEFB surfactants is very beneficial because of the high price of synthetic surfactants. In addition, the surfactant from OPEFB can reduce environmental problems that arise due to the OPEFB waste. The manufacture of surfactants begins with processing OPEFB waste into black liquor for the lignin to be extracted. Research on the manufacture of black liquor from OPEFB waste can use various methods, one of the most frequently used is oorgonosolv delignification. Organosolv delignification was carried out with 10% sodium hydroxide as a catalyst with a cooking solution of ethanol and aquadest heated at a temperature of 100 C. Then for the separation of lignin from black liquor by using a mixture with acid. In this case, the researchers used nitric acid. Three amounts of acid used in this study were 10 ml, 13 ml, and 15 ml. The lignin obtained from the black liquor was then tested for characteristics through the FTIR functional group test. The result of this research is that 300 ml of black liquor without filtrate is obtained with a black liquor yield of 74% and a pH of 13. Most lignin is produced from black liquor with the addition of 15 ml of HNO3 and pH 2. Based on FT-IR the best results are sample lignin with the addition of HNO3 15 ml and pH 2 according to the lignin that has been used previously.
