Abstract

There are several problems in the oil field that is being produced, one of the problems that often occurs is the presence of wax disturbances in oil production wells and causes a decrease in production rates. There are several methods that can be used to overcome wax deposition, including the chemical method, in which solvents or bioethanol are generally used derived from plants and are generally produced by pretreatment, hydrolysis, and fermentation. Furthermore, it was announced by a distillation process to obtain bioethanol products that were applied with waxy crude oil to reduce the pour point value and determine the WAT (Wax Appreance Temperature) value from petroleum wells. From the hydrolysis process carried out with 15%, 20%, and 25% acid variations, it was found that the value of reducing sugar was increasing and the temperature variation from 50ºC to 100ºC continued to increase until it reached the optimum point of 30ºBrix and after 100ºC the value of reducing sugar decreased. The distillation process is used to produce ethanol products from 450 mL samples to ±30 mL ethanol with different ethanol levels. The number of inoculants also affects the ethanol content where the addition of 0.015 g/mL inoculants produces the optimum ethanol content of 19%. Bioethanol 70% is mixed into waxy crude oil and can reduce the WAT value from 39ºC to 38ºC and bioethanol 5%, 20%, 50%, 70%, and 100% can reduce the pour point value by 1ºC to 3ºC. So it can be concluded that ethanol as a solvent has the potential to inhibit the deposition of paraffin wax.
