Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the role and obstacles of the Department of Archives and Libraries in Pelalawan Regency in Increasing Public Interest and Reading Habits. This type of research is a descriptive survey with a qualitative approach, the data sources come from research informants, namely from Dinas staff, librarians, and library visitors. Meanwhile, secondary data obtained in the form of documents that support the research problem. Data was collected by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained from the field are reduced, analyzed, and then conclusions are drawn. The results of the study concluded that the Department of Archives and Libraries has played a role in increasing people's interest and reading habits. These results are obtained from research findings set on institutional indicators, policies, and targets. The obstacles or obstacles found in an effort to increase people's interest and reading habits are non-permanent buildings (special buildings), unfulfilled budgets, incomplete collections
