Abstract

PT Sekarbumi Alamlestari in Garo City is a palm oil mill use galvanized pipes for the process of distributing clean water to be used for the production process and also which will be channeled to housing employee at the company. The water starts from peat sucked water from the reservoir that continues this is processed so it becomes clean water. Galvanized Pipe is a type of pipe that has been coated with zinc on its functional surface to prevent corrosion. But that does not mean galvanized pipes can not be corroded. Galvanized pipes can be corroded if they are too long Old pestles in a corrosive environment like peat water, because peat water has a pH of 3 - 5 so that the peat water is very acidic and corrosive. There are various ways that have been done to reduce the rate of corrosion of metals, one of which is by adding corrosion inhibitor. Tree guava is one type of plant that can be used as corrosion inhibitor because it contains tannin in the leaves. Tannins themselves are complex compounds that can be used as inhibitors to protect i metal from corrosion. This study aims to determine the effect of guava leaf extract seeds at the galvanic pipe corrosion rate. Corrosion rate measurement method used is a method of losing weight. Galvanized pipe specimens are immersed in the medium water peat with addition and without addition of inhibitors. The inhibitor Variated given is 5%, 7%, 9%, 11% and the length of soaking time ie given for 42 days. The results showed guava leaf extract effective in reducing the rate of corrosion. Soaking without using a pump the lowest corrosion rate is obtained at 9% inhibitor concentration which is equal to 0.018 mm / y, and at the submersion the pump with the lowest corrosion rate is obtained at an inhibitor concentration of 11% ie sebes ar. 0.019 mm / y.
