Abstract

Stress Corrosion Cracking [SCC] or stress corrosion cracking is a failure ko metal The results of intergranular and transgranular fracturing are under the influence tensile stress and corrosive environment. Stress Corrosion Cracking often occurs in underwater pipe. This is due to the usual welding done on pipes produce teg residual delineation and combination with corrosive seawater media causing SCC. The purpose of this study is to understand SCC phenomenon and examine the effect of variations in load on SCC on the material AISI 304 pipe. The testing method used is C ring, with variations load 3 kN, 4kN and 5kN. Matrial is dipped in seawater for 5 days, 10 days and 15 days. The test carried out is a hardness test, data retrieval weight loss, corrosion rate calculation and area measurement a rea cracked with optical microscope. The results of hardness testing show an increase in the value of violence the specimen after it is done the loading from initial violence 163 rose to 165.5 At a load of 3 kN, 181.3 at a load of 4kN and 189.1 at a 5kN load. Lost b closely and corrosion rate is influenced by the amount of load and the length of time immersion. The greatest weight loss and corrosion rate occur in specimens with a load of 5 kN and dyeing time of 15 days and the smallest occurs at a load of 3 kN and dyeing 5 days. You cracked axles also increase with increasing load and increasing immersion time. Specimens that have the largest area of cracking occur in specimens with a load of 5 kN with a dipping time of 15 days, that is 999039.09 μₘ 2 and the specimen that has the smallest crack area is the specimen with 3 kN load at 5 days immersion of 285494.76 μₘ 2 . This research shows that the load given should be a maximum of only 4 kN, due to the increase in load above this value causes the corrosion rate to increase sharp.
