Abstract

Silica sand is one of the abundant materials in Indonesia, this study aims to obtain the results of the influence of the number of ball mill balls and the length of time of silica sand refinement. To obtain the appropriate fineness, silica sand is processed using a grinding machine, namely planetary ball - mill. The analysis of this study included variations of the grinding ball, namely 20, 25, and 30 items with a milling time of 2, 4, and 8 hours. The results of silica sand milling are then sieved using sieve on mesh 200 with a 75 μm sieve hole with 30.4% percentage passing on 25-ball sphere. Then the particle size of the silica size is tested for microstructure, size and element distribution using the PSA test, and SEM-EDX test. After testing the most optimum ball in this test that is on ball 25 with a particle size of 190 nm - 290 nm with an undersize of 80% and a frequency of 15% at the PSA test stage. After that the heat sintering temperature of 1200ºC is carried out with a holding time of 4 hours. The results of silica sand sintering with a mixture of PEG in the initial stages before disintering blackish brown then after sintering turns pale pink with particle size changed to 245 nm - 312 nm, the metal and non-metallic elements contained in silica sand are carbon (C) 6 , 81%, oxygen (O) 47.39%, silicon (Si) 44.79%, Aluminum (Al) 0.67%, calcium (Ca) 0.35%
