Abstract

The study of language has various branches, one of which is pragmatics. Pragmatics is the study of meaning in relation to speech situations (Tarigan, 2009:34). Illocutionary speech act is a form of speech that not only expresses or informs something, but can also be used to do something or an action. This research is related to illocutionary speech acts, especially politeness of illocutionary speech acts of teachers and students in SMA Negeri 14 Pekanbaru. The research problem is not limited to the types of illocutionary speech acts and maxims of politeness principles. This study aims to describe, analyze, and interpret the illocutionary speech acts of teachers and students in SMA Negeri 14 Pekanbaru. The theory used in this research is Searle's theory in Tarigan (2009:42-44), and the theory of politeness principles in the form of maxims in Kunjana Rahardi (2005:59). This study uses a qualitative approach and uses a descriptive method. The number of indexal information data on the speeches of teachers and students in SMA Negeri 14 Pekanbaru is 72 utterances. The utterances consist of 103 assertive illocutionary speech acts, 62 directive speech acts, 24 commissive speech acts, 14 expressive speech acts, and 21 declarative illocutionary speech acts. The results of the analysis of the maxims of politeness principles contained in each illocutionary speech act are 19 utterances. The results of the analysis of the maxims of politeness principles contained in each illocutionary speech act were found to be 19 utterances. From the data, the maxim of wisdom is 20 utterances, the maxim of generosity is 5, the maxim of appreciation is 3 utterances, the maxim of simplicity is 1 utterance, the maxim of consensus is 2 utterances, and the maxim of sympathy is 1 utterance. The results of this study indicate that the illocutionary speech acts of teachers and students in SMA Negeri 14 Pekanbaru which are often used are assertive illocutionary speech acts, namely 103 utterances and the least used are commissive illocutionary speech acts, which are 14 utterances. The maxim that is most often found in illocutionary speech acts is the maxim of wisdom. The most common maxims in illocutionary speech acts are the maxim of simplicity and the maxim of sympathy.
