Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the musical elements in the illustration of music in theater-poetry performances violated by Sulaiman's work in the tribal art studio, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The theory used in Hugh M. Miller's research on elements of music theory (2017) is Rhythm, Melody, Tone, Tempo, and Dynamics. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method using qualitative data, namely the research is carried out by approaching the object under study to obtain accurate data. Research data collection techniques are observation techniques, interview techniques, and documentation techniques. The results of this study are that the musical elements in the theatrical-poetry performance were found to be violated. 1) Rhythm exists in all musical instruments, namely stringed nails, cello, accordion, male and female vocals, acoustic guitar, calempong, tambourine, djembe, cymbals , and violin, 2) Melodies are only found on male and female vocal instruments, violin, cello, accordion and calempong, 3) Tone (the tone used is a diatonic scale composed of eight notes, namely the C-D-E-F-G-A-B tone (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si) but uses the A minor scale, namely the A-B-C-D-E-F-G tone (La, Si, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol), 4) The tempo of theatrical-poetry music is violated without a tempo that changes depending on the atmosphere contained in the theatrical script, 5) The dynamics used are piano, mezzo forte and forte, which are more dominant in illustration of theaterical music, poetry is violated.
