Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of smartphone addiction toward empathy in generation millennial on Pekanbaru which number of population are 307.573 people which 20-34 years old, research samples are 100 people. In this research the author is use simple random sampling method to collected samples. This questionnaire consists of 10 items for smartphone addiction scale and 28 items for empathy scale. The result of this research is use simple regression linear analysis. The result of analyze that have been done show significant influence between smartphone addiction and empathy of generation millennial on Pekanbaru. Smartphone addiction has negative effect toward people’s empathy. R Square 0.282 or 28.2% as the contribution value. The effective contribution variable of smartphone addiction toward people’s empathy is 28.2% and 71.8% and other variable also affecting this research.
