Abstract

This study is motivated by the low learning activeness of students especially in learning Islamic studies during the COVID-19 pandemic at SD Islam Plus YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan in Pekanbaru City. The low learning activeness of students is due to the factors of online learning carried out from home and it causes the learning process to be teacher-centered, creates a monotonous learning process and causes students to become passive. So, in order to overcome these problems, the reseacher is interested in doing a study on the teachers’ efforts to improve students’ active learning in the subject of Islamic Studies. This study aims to find out the efforts made by the teachersto improve students’ activelearning in the subject of Islamic Studies at SD Islam Plus YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan in Pekanbaru City. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative research. The population of this study consists of 4 teachers of Islamic Studies at SD Islam Plus YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan in Pekanbaru City. The data collection techniques used are interviews and field documentation. Based on the results of the interviews, the teacher's efforts to improve the students’ active learning are: encouraging students to think logically, serving different students’ learning styles, Providing additional time to assist students to understand thelesson materials, explaning the lesson materials more detailed and interesting, using appropriteteaching methodsto the students’ learning styles, and also creating active learning by approaching the students.
