Abstract

ABSTRACT Ade Vira Shinthya. 2021. Thesis. Persuasif Techniques in the Book Don’t Want to Be an Average by Ahmad Rifa’i Rif’an. This research is entiled “Persuasif Techniques in the Book Don’t Want to Be an Average by Ahmad Rifa’i Rif’an”. This research is motivated by the existence of serveral persuasive techiniques contained in the book Don’t Want to Be an Average by Ahmad Rifa’i Rif’an which is influencing the reader. The problem in this research is how are the persuasive techiniques of rationalization, identification, suggestion, conformity, compensation, replacement, and projection in the book Don’t Want to Be an Average by Ahmad Rifa’i Rif’an? This study aims to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude persuasive techniques of rationalization, identification, suggestion, conformity, compensation, replacement, and projection in Ahmad Rifa’i Rif’an’s book Don’t Want to Be an Average. The theory used analyze the research problem is the theory of ”persuasive technique” proposed by Gorys Keraf (2007). The approach in this study is qualitative approach using the method of content analysis. Based on the results of data analysis, 70 dara were found regarding the types of persuasive techniques consisting of 26 data rationalization, 18 data identification, 24 data suggestions, 1 data conformity, 1 data replacement, while compensation, and projections were not found. Persuasive rationalization technique that provides logical justification based on one’s experience. Identification by convincing the reader through the identification of special characteristics. Suggestions that persuade readers a lot with interesting words. Conformity can match itself with others. No data found for compensation. Substitution can divert anger with someone who shouldn’t be receiving the anger. No data found for projection.
