Abstract

This study aims to find out the factors that cause the low interest in reading students in the library of the SMAN I Tapung school (case study class XI IPS). This research is a qualitative descriptive analysis research with sample determination using purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in this study are: 1) Observation. 2) Interview. 3) and Documentation. Interviews were conducted with 18 students, 2 teachers and 2 library guards. The results showed that the low interest in reading students in the school library was influenced by internal and external factors. Internal factors include: 1) reading ability, 2) psychological needs, 3) attitude, 4) age, 4) and 5) gender. While external factors include: 1) Parents, 2) The unavailability of suitable reading material, 3) peer influence, 4) Teachers, 5) Telefisi and films, 6) ethnic groups
