Abstract

Adolescent is a transition period of development between childhood and adulthood which generally starts at the age of 12 years and ends at the age of 20 years. This study aims to determine the description of self-esteem on adolescents after the death of a father. This study uses a qualitative method. The data collection in this study uses observation and interview methods while the subjects are two teenage students who are domiciled in Pekanbaru and selected by purposive sampling procedure. The results of the research conducted shows that both informants have positive and negative self-esteem based on aspects of self-esteem. The self-esteem aspect of the two informants can be reviewed from the aspect of meaningfulness where the informant becomes personally pessimistic. In the aspect of the informant's virtue, it becomes a person who is difficult to express his feelings to others, and the informant becomes difficult to control himself. In the aspect of power, the informant is a person who is good at intercommunication. In the aspect of meaningfulness both informants have an assessment when faced with a problem solved by solitude, they seek peace by consuming drugs. In the aspect of the ability of the informants, some feel that success is the main target in their lives, and the second informant feels that it is difficult to determine his own future because he hasn’t got freedom of choice.
