Abstract

The teacher is a professional educator who is responsible for educating, teaching, guiding, directing, training, assessing and evaluating students. This study aims to determine how the relationship between sense of humor with coping stress on the teacher. In this study researchers used quantitative methods. The total population in this study was 3,303 high school equivalents in Pekanbaru, with a total sample of 144 respondents. In this study researchers used a cluster random sampling technique. Data collection tools for independent variables were measured using a Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS) from Thorson and Powell modified by Putri with 24 items, while for the dependent variable measured using the Ways of Coping scale compiled by Setyowati based on aspects of Lazarus and Folkman with 50 aitem. The results showed that the majority of teachers' sense of humor and coping stress were in the medium category, which was a 39.1% sense of humor variable as many as 43 subjects and 32.8% coping stress variables as much as 42 subek. Based on the results of the analysis using Pearson product moment correlation techniques, it is known that there is a significant positive relationship between sense of humor with coping stress on the teacher. This is indicated by the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.404 with a significance level of 0.000 (p <0.05). That is, the higher the teacher's sense of humor the higher the coping stress, conversely the lower the teacher's sense of humor the lower the coping stress.
