Abstract

in essence humans are social creatures who need each other. There is process of interaction on social life, there are several factors of social life, Among that imitation, suggestion, sympathy, identification and empathy. The conflict that happen in the society because of the lack of empathy in the society that become negative impact for gadget user and create arrogant personal character, gadget user do not care about their society circle, and doing bad deed. The purpose of the research is to know the relation between gadget addict and empathy character students at SMA IT Pekanbaru with population 996 students. Total of the samples in this research with 152 students in essence humans are social creatures who need each other. There is process of interaction on social life, there are several factors of social life, Among that imitation, suggestion, sympathy, identification and empathy. The conflict that happen in the society because of the lack of empathy in the society that become negative impact for gadget user and create arrogant personal character, gadget user do not care about their society circle, and doing bad deed. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. Data collection techniques used were empathy scales totaling 11 items (rix = 0.828) and gadget addict scales using (SAS-SV) totaling 10 items (rix = 0.810). The research data were processed using Pearson product moment correlation analysis. Correlation test results obtained (rxy = -0.028) with a significance value of 0.730 (ρ> 0.05). This explains that there is significant no relation between gadget addict and empathy.
