Abstract

ABSTRACT Abdul Gani Ansari, 2020, An Analysis of Students’ Speaking Ability on Speech of Second Semester at English Department UIR Pekanbaru. Speaking is one of four language skills beside listening, reading, and writing. Speaking is an activity used by someone to carry out spoken communication with others. The purpose of this research is to know the students’ speaking ability on speech of second semester in UIR Pekanbaru. The research method in this research the descriptive qualitative research design. The sample of this research was 32 students’ of English Language Education UIR Pekanbaru which randomly taken from the population of the study. The instrument of this research was closed speaking speaking test which consisted of four components pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and fluency. It was used the four level of category which consist excellent, good, average, and poor. From the data analysis, it was found that the highest score of the students’ speaking abilty was fluency with the mean score is 4.1 and it was categorized as good level (67%). It can be concluded that the ability of the students of the second semester of English Language Education were good category.
