Abstract

EvaluAtion of Capability Land in Pinang Lelah Watershed, Indragiri Watershed IRYAN FADLI 143410564 ABTRAKS Pinang Lelah sub-watershed is one of part the Indragiri watershed with a height of 0-100 meter above sea level, the distribution of slope dominated 2-16 % and most of the population work in agriculture and plantation sectors such as rubber and palm oil, the Pinang Lelah is a sub watershed with a height level of criticality up to 58% of total area and 15% conducted to critical category. This caused by high conversion of forest into plantations without forest areas. The land capability classification system applied in this research was a classification system issued by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the classification system divided into 8 classes. It was applied land indicators such as pH, texture, soil erodibility, drainage and effective soil depth. Samples were obtained by stratified random sampling method, the sample based on strata, it was land unit maps. The land used in the Pinang Lelah sub watershed was dominated by oil palm plantation sector covered of 19,391 hectares or 93.6% areas of Pinang Lelah. The land capability class in Pinang Lelah sub watershed was divided into 2 classes, namely class IV and V, the results of the land evaluation showed that land used was not in accordance with land capability cause the used of residential land that should be in class I, II, III but that instead in IV class capability.
