Abstract

At the time of drilling activities do not always run well which can cause problems that occur such as formation damage, loss of mud circulation and so on. Then the underbalanced drilling method was used to overcome this problem. The mud used in underbalanced drilling includes various types of mud such as foam, aerated mud, gas or air and mist foam. In the research that has been done, it is stated that the occurrence of total mud loss in conventional drilling, in overcoming the problem of total loss, the underbalanced drilling method is carried out. This study aims to determine the exact composition of the mud to overcome the problem in well X. This study use aeration mud with was conducted to determine the sensitivity to mud by using mud additives at the Soltex ratio. There are 4 different Soltex ratios, namely 1.0 gr, 0.9 gr, 0.8 gr and 0.75 gr. The effect of Soltex on the weight of the mud affects the physical properties of other mud. This method is carried out in a laboratory test with several tests of Density, Viscosity, Yield Point, Plastic Viscosity, Gel Strength, pH, Filtrate, Mud Cake and solid content. The results of the mud to Soltex 0.75 gr ratio were 8.4 ppg, plastic viscosity 14 cps, yield point 50 lb/100 ft2, pH 11 and solid content of 2.2%. The mud to Soltex ratio of 0.8 gr is 7.9 ppg, plastic viscosity is 19 cps, yield point is 21 lb/100 ft2, pH is 10 and solid content is 4.8%. The mud to Soltex ratio of 0.9 gr is 7.25 ppg, plastic viscosity is 17 cps, yield point is 29 lb/100 ft2, pH is 11 and solid content is 5.8%. The mud to Soltex ratio of 1 gr is 7.15 ppg, plastic viscosity is 11 cps, yield point 31 is lb/100 ft2, API filter is 12.6 ml, gel strength 10 sec is 4 lb/100 ft2, gel strength 10 minute is 5 lb/100 ft2, pH is 10.5 dan solid content is 2.9 %. There is a change in the properties of the sludge after being put into the hot roller. Changes in the properties of the mud due to changes in temperature. The best result is the Soltex ratio of 1 gr, the mud test is in accordance with the mud specification range. So, the mud composition is appropriate to solve the problem of well X.
