Abstract

Along with technological advances with the convenience offered, individuals often forget the negative impact of using a Smartphone. One of them is the behavior of ignoring someone to the other person by choosing to use ainstead of smartphone communicating face-to-face with the other person. This behavior is called Phubbing Behavior. This study aim to determind the effect of Personality on Phubbing Behavior in faculty Psychology students at Islamic University of Riau. The data collection method used the Phubbing Behavior Scale and the Personality Scale. The population in this study were 843 Faculty Psychology students at Islamic University of Riau with a sample of 272 students. The sampling technique used is Probability Sampling with Technique Simple Random Sampling. The results of the analysis method found that data were not normally distributed and had a linear pattern, so the researchers used the analysis Spearman's Rank Correlation . The results of statistical analysis showed a correlation of -0.176 with the Sig. 0.002 (p<0.05). This showed that significant effect with a negative direction between Personality and Phubbing Behavior in Psychology students of Islamic University of Riau. Of the 5 types personality, the Peersonality have effect to phubbing behavior are the Conscientiousness personality, Agreebleness Personality, and Neuroticism Personality. The effective contribution of variable Phubbing to Personality is 2.6%, the rest is influenced by other variables.
