Cast iron is one of the most widely used engineering materials in various applications because it has many advantages. These advantages include an easy manufacturing process, capable of forming complex shapes, easy machining processes, wear resistance, and high vibration. The mechanical properties of iron are influenced by cooling speed, thickness of castings, heat treatment and addition of alloying element. Especially for drum brakes. This study aims to improve the mechanical and physical properties of gray cast with the addition of manganese (Mn). In this study, the addition of Mn as much as 1%, .2%, and 2.5%. After the addition of Mn, no tensile test, hardness test, thermal conductivity test, microstructure observation and chemical composition test were carried out. Results Based on the research, it was found that the best combination of properties was given by the material with the addition of 2% Mn, because it produced the lowest modulus of elasticity, the highest thermal conductivity, and the highest hardness.
