Abstract

The role of the community is needed in realizing waste management through waste banks. However, several waste banks are running with minimal community support, one of which is in the Pematang Pudu Bersih waste bank, Pematang Pudu Village. The purpose of this research is to formulate a strategy to improve waste management by the community through a waste bank in Pematang Pudu Village. This study uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods, univariate-bivariate analysis methods, and IFAS-EFAS and SWOT analysis methods to determine strategies for improving waste management. Operationally, waste management in Pematang Pudu Village has not been effective, because the role of the government is less so that waste management is more of a community self-help orientation. The management of the PPB Waste Bank is categorized as not good enough because it has not been able to attract the interest of the Pematang Pudu Village community and the lack of government support from the Regency and sub-district parties. Based on the results of statistical tests, it is found that there is no significant relationship between the factors that influence community involvement in waste banks and community participation. The strategies for improving waste management by the community through waste banks in Pematang Pudu Village are (1) Maximizing institutions in waste management, (2) Increasing cooperation with third parties, (3) Improving waste management facilities and infrastructure, (4) Improving governance waste bank to obtain third party financing, (5) Formulate regulations regarding waste management that are mutually agreed upon by the entire community and take firm action against those who violate these provisions, (6) Provide socialization about waste management to the community by the government and ( 7) Improving the quality of waste bank human resources through coaching and training.
