Abstract

Academic procrastination is an activity to procrastinate or do something that is done intentionally and repeatedly, especially on the academic issue. To reduce these impacts, students need to manage and control the learning system to support in achieving their learning goals, commonly known as self-regulated learning. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-regulated learning and the academic procrastination on students of Islamic University of Riau. The hypothesis states that there is a negative and significant relationship between self-regulated learning and academic procrastination on students of Islamic University of Riau. The sample in this study is 348 students. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The data collection method is carried out using two scales: the self-regulated learning scale and the academic procrastination scale. The reliability test is carried out with the alpha cronbach technique which produces a value of 0.922 for the academic procrastination scale and 0.948 for the self-regulated learning scale. The data analysis method used is Pearson product moment correlation analysis. Statistical analysis shows a correlation of -0.415 with a significance value of 0,000 (p <0.05). This indicates that there is a negative significant relationship between self-regulated learning and procrastination on students of Islamic University of Riau. It means that, the higher the self-regulated learning, the lower the academic procrastination and vice versa.
