Abstract

In a field condition that is already mature or has reached the peak production, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology is needed to be able to lift the residual oil from the reservoir. One of the EOR methods used is by injecting chemicals such as surfactants, where the surfactant is compound that has a hydrophobic group structure and a hydrophilic group which in its mechanism can reduce interfacial tension. The combination of surfactants has been studied since 1980, where the combination of surfactants is believed to be able to change the emulsion for the better. In this study, combination testing was carried out on nonionic and amphoteric surfactants, to find out further the surfactant characterization was carried out in the form of group analysis using the Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analysis, determining the acid number, saponification number, and determining the value of Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) on the sample combination of 1:1 ratio and 1:2 ratio. At the peak of specific absorption of FTIR, the surfactant combination produces an O-H group, CH3, C=C aromatic, CH2 , S=O group, C=O group, C-O group, and C-N group. With the value of the acid number, the sample ratio 1:1 is 3.366 mg KOH/gr and the sample ratio 1:2 is 4.7694 mg KOH/gr sample and the saponification number respectively sample 1 is 50.499 and sample 2 is 36.471 mg KOH/gr sample. Then the HLB value of the combination of nonionic and amphoteric surfactant in sample 1 is 7.3 and sample 2 is 6.8, which indicates that the combination of nonionic-amphoteric surfactant can be applied as a wetting agent. In the HLB range, the combination of nonionic-amphoteric surfactants obtained by the study can be continued with surfactant screening.
