Abstract

This study aims to find out what the Bulian Besar Creative Dance looks like at the Tameng Sari Dance Company Studio, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The theory used is the theory by Soedarsono (1977:7) about cultivating a dance that has the necessary or supportive dance elements such as motion, music, costumes, makeup, lighting, floor design, levels and dynamics. The method used is descriptive research with interview techniques conducted directly to Wan Harun Ismail as the choreographer of the dance created by Bulian Besar itself. The results of this study indicate that the dance created by Bulian Besar is the development of the Rentak Bulian traditional dance from the Talang Mamak tribe in Indragiri Hulu district. The dance created by Bulian Besar has developed and changed both in terms of motion, theme, dynamics, floor patterns, music, costumes, make-up and other elements. The choreographer tries to rework the Rentak Bulian traditional dance in his own style. This work has undergone changes and developments into a new dance creation without leaving the existing fakem-fakem.
