Abstract
This study aims to describe the context of Gondang Beroguong music at a wedding in Kunto Darussalam District, Kota Lama Village, Rokan Hulu Regency Riau Province. The theory of context used is according to Alan P Merriam (1964: 209) context is the situation or setting in which a conversation / dialogue occurs in a communication. the method used in this study is a qualitative research method which is carried out by describing things related to a situation. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was done by means of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research in this study indicate that Study of the context of Gondang Beroguong’s music at a wedding in Kunto Darussalam District, Kota Lama Village, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. Explaining the results of the research context related to circumstances and supporters in society which has 6 functions such as: the function of music as entertainment, the function of music as communication, the function of music as a symbol representation, the function of music as a physical response, the function of music as an aesthetic appreciation, and the function of music as a contribution to cultural continuity and stability.
