Abstract

Traffic signs and markers are one of the tools that can control traffic, especially to improve the security and smoothness of the road system. The number of traffic accidents is not only caused by motorists who do not have ethics when driving, but it is also suspected that there are still many motorists who do not understand the meaning and purpose of the traffic signs made, especially for high school / vocational students. With psychological students who are still unstable, this understanding may be influenced by gender factors, age factors, SIM ownership factors or vehicle ownership factors. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method with sample collection techniques using quota techniques, through surveys and questionnaires, the questionnaire used is an open questionnaire with a sample of 100 respondents from 10 high school / vocational schools in Pekanbaru city. Data analysis techniques are using statistical techniques by testing the validity, reliability test and chi square test. From the results of the calculation of the level of human understanding of traffic signs and road markings referring to the State Police Regulations of Rebuplik Indonesia No. 9 of 2012 Regarding Driving Permits 82% of respondents stated understood and 18% of respondents stated to be unaware. From 20 statistical tests the relationship between the level of understanding of students towards traffic signs and road markings with the influence of gender factors was 15%, the influence of age factors was obtained 40%, the influence of SIM ownership factor is 30% and the influence of vehicle ownership factors is 35%. From the results of observations this study shows that there are still traffic signs and road markings that must be repaired such as signs or road markings whose colors have faded.
