Abstract

Watermelon farming in the village of Kubang Jaya is one of the jobs and a source of income for farmers, the results of the watermelon farming are expected to be able to benefit and prosper the farmers. This study aims to analyze: 1) Farmer characteristics and watermelon farming profile; 2) The use of production factors and technology for watermelon cultivation; 3) Costs, production, price, income and efficiency of watermelon farming in Kubang Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. This research will be conducted for 4 (four) months starting from September 2019 to December 2019. The method used in this study is the survey method. The study was conducted in Kubang Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The location selection was carried out deliberately (purposive) with census respondents selected as many as 22 watermelon farmers. Analysis of the data used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed: the average age of entry into the productive age group (44 years), the level of education is still low 9.27 years (SMP), farmers have 8 years experience, the average number of family dependents 4 people. The business profile obtained an average area of land is 1.55 ha, the number of working days is 24.15 HOK / ha or 37.44 HOK / arable, production 22,387.50 kg / arable / MT, and productivity 14,556.82 kg / ha / MT. Watermelon cultivation technology applied by farmers in general is almost in accordance with the theoretical recommendations. The use of production factors per hectare: seed 10.09 packs, mulch 59.24 kg, manure 3,627.57 kg, dolomite 298.24 kg, Za 50.88 kg, NPK 101.76 kg, KCL 37.54 kg, TSP 44.57 kg, NPK pearl 99.71 kg, round up 2.48 liters, double 0.84 liters, santamicro 27.30 grams, antomic 0.34 liters, furadan 3.46 kg, prepaton 0.44 liters, biggest 0.33 liter, and 0.82 liter beflon. Watermelon farming production costs in the village of Kubang Jaya obtained Rp. 13,299,557 / Ha / MT, gross income was IDR 44,270,909 / Ha / MT, while net income was IDR 30,971,352 / Ha / MT, and RCR (Revenue Cost Ratio) was 3.32, meaning farming watermelon in Kubang Jaya Village is profitable and feasible to be cultivated
