Abstract

Palas Intersection, or better known as the people of Pekanbaru as Simpang Bingung located in Rumbai District, is one of the intersection points in Pekanbaru City which are considered accident-prone by the government and the community because these locations are relatively frequent in traffic accidents with accident data since 2014 until 2016. showed 13 people died, 11 people were seriously injured and 45 were slightly injured and material losses of Rp. 2,116,905,000. The condition of the intersection which is the entrance of vehicles from outside the area to the city of Pekanbaru, from year to year indeed continues to experience changes and even partially closed to reduce public confusion, but the change is not so influential on the level of traffic accidents in the area, the purpose of this study is to determine the cause of the accident at the Palas intersection which is related to its geometrical aspects and the effect of the intersection on traffic accidents. This research was carried out by measuring the geometry of the roundabout, surveying the number of road users, observing and documenting the condition of signs and road markings and conducting interviews using the questionnaire of road users both large vehicle drivers, bus drivers, private drivers and motorcycle users, then an analysis and discussion by comparing with applicable standards. The results showed that public opinion that passed the Palas Roundabout both motorcycle users, small cars and large cars, stated that 70% of the roundabout was confusing, 18% were uncomfortable and only 12%, which stated the cause of confusion and discomfort was caused by 86% because many intersections, 8% due to small roundabouts and 6% due to narrow roads. Geographically, the Palas Intersection in the Minas direction and Sri Indra road have not met the standards of the Budaran according to the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI 1997), where the width of the approach entrance (w1, w2) and the width of the braid (Ww) is relatively small so it needs to be engineered by eliminating the island dividing the road from the direction of Minas so that the width of the approach approaches (w2) and the width of the braid (Ww) becomes 10.23 m and the width of the braid (WW) becomes 11, 8 m and the length of the braid (Lw) becomes 30.7 m. So the WE / WW value becomes 0.74 and WW / Lw = 0.38 and meets the 1997 MKJI standards
