Abstract

Teenagers who adopt a lifestyle that is in accordance with current trends are the most appropriate way to be able to enter into the life of the social group they want. Self-esteem is an aspect of personality that plays an important role in controlling the tendency of a hedonic lifestyle. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and hedonic lifestyle in students. The subjects in this study were students of the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Riau with a total sample of 103 people. Sampling using snowball sampling technique. This study uses a selfesteem scale and a hedonic lifestyle scale from the previous research scale compiled by Siti Maisyaroh to students of UIN Maliki Malang. Hypothesis testing in this study uses the Spearmean's Rank Order correlation test. The correlation coefficient (r) was 0.198 with a significance value of 0.045 (p < 0.05). This means that there is a significant correlation between self-esteem variables and a hedonic lifestyle so that the hypothesis is accepted. The higher the self-esteem, the higher the hedonic lifestyle, and vice versa, the higher the hedonism lifestyle, the higher the self-esteem.
