Abstract
In Indonesia, there are many orphanages that play an active role in raising children. Many youths live in orphanages due to economic limitations. Living in an orphanage is not an easy thing for teenagers. Because adolescence is a time of transition from children to adults. Teenagers need to develop and adapt to find their identity. Research conducted by Khan and Jahan revealed that adolescents who live in orphanages have lower subjective well being than adolescents who do not live in orphanages. Subjective well-being is an evaluation of a person's life which consists of life satisfaction, happiness and refers to various types of criteria, positive feelings are more dominant than negative feelings. This study aims to determine the description of subjective well-being in adolescents at Al-Istiklal orphanage Pekanbaru. The subjects in this study amounted to five people. This study uses qualitative methods with structured interview data collection techniques and checklist behavior observations. The results of this study indicate that the five informants have a very high average subjective well-being with a result of 93.33%.
