Abstract

As the growing need for a centralized information system application. Web-based applications become the main choice, because of the ease of installation, easy access and multiplatform. Web-based applications require a web server to be accessed by clients both through the intranet network and on the internet. This research aims to measure the performance and security of the Nginx and Lighttpd web servers. The parameters used in this research are throughput, connection, reply, request, error, and security. The tools used in this research are httperf, Wireshark, and sqlmap. Based on the results of tests that have been carried out from these test parameters, it concludes that to serve a static web such as HTML documents and Nginx Images provide better results with 0.7 ms reply time value. But in serving dynamic websites such as PHP documents and Lighttpd WordPress documents get good results with a reply time value of 0.4 to 0.1 ms / req. The results of the security testing of the two web servers still need attention, especially in database security. Both of these web servers are vulnerable to attack by hackers.
