Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the process of learning drum music at the non-formal music school of Purwacaraka Pekanbaru. The theory to discuss drum music learning in non-formal schools is the theory of Sudjana (1992). The research method used by the author is a qualitative method using observation, interviews and documentation techniques to collect data. The data in this study were sourced directly from the Purwacaraka School of Music, Pekanbaru. In the data analysis technique, the researcher used the theory of data analysis techniques according to Sugiyono (2010). Researchers conducted direct interviews to the Purwacaraka Music School and recorded conversations to find out how drum music was taught at the Purwacaraka music school in Pekanbaru. In conclusion, the researcher found that learning drum music at the Purwacaraka music school in Pekanbaru used a book-shaped curriculum entitled "Drum purwacaraka Musik Studio" which was used as a reference for carrying out the learning process. Learning starts from basic techniques, namely by providing a guide book on drum musical instruments that are produced directly from the music school, then the teacher explains and practices the theory of good and correct drumming techniques, then the teacher teaches students to recognize notes, tempo, time and the drum parts. . After students understand and are considered capable, students can immediately demonstrate or play the drum musical instrument. For learning the drums itself, there are four grades that must be passed, where these four grades are targeted to be taken within 1 year to reach the next grade.
